lifestyle newborn session in kentucky
Y’all, prepare yourselves. You may have baby fever after this post. I walked away from this newborn session wanting to have about ten more babies (then I remembered how wonderfully exhausting and hard it is and thought…”hm…maybe just one more”). N is just so sweet and the whole family made it all look oh so easy. Momma Meredith is a dear friend and extremely talented photographer near Ashland, KY (Meredith Dickens Photography). It is always an incredible honor to be asked to photograph a family during such a precious time. I have to admit being asked to photograph a super talented photographer’s family, during such a precious time, just ups things a bit. Especially when I know how talented this momma is with newborns. One of the joys of working with photographers is that they are super picky when choosing who will photograph their family and you know they have chosen you to do the style of photography YOU are good at. And Meredith had already photographed sweet N all by herself, so I knew I got to focus on those beautiful connections I love so much (I may have snuck in a couple pictures of N too ;)). Meredith also has a super talented videographer as a best friend, so she came along and made the sweetest little video of our session (Alyson Biggs Films). So, basically, it was just a big playdate for us photographer/videographer mommas.
One of the things I loved about Meredith’s session is that we did it when N was a bit older than my typical newborn sessions. While I wouldn’t suggest this age for the sleepy curled up pictures of baby alone, a month or older is wonderful for family pictures and more interactive pictures. I remember before I became a momma I stuck to the hard and fast rule of newborn sessions always before 14 days. During that time I was also doing more of the sleepy curled up, nakey, pictures. After I became a momma I realized how crazy that first couple weeks actually is and how insanely special it was that I was allowed into so many homes during that time. I began to change my tune to “under 14 days or whenever you are ready for me”. Every stage is beautiful. There is often an awkward period between 2 and 4 weeks, so it may be wise to avoid that time, but other than that, let’s just do it when you’re ready for me. No matter what, remember, we always take our time with newborns. No rush. All the breaks we need and all the snuggles. I want every single session to be a celebration of your family and that is what it shall be.
Okay…I mean…just try not to get baby fever…
Go baby fever yet? 🙂 Also, did you see that baby girls nursery?!
So much love my sweet friends,
Cilla
