Way back when I first began photographing one part of this extended family, I received an email from the grandpa saying how much he adored the photos and how they truly captured the beautiful eyes that had been passed down through his family. I instantly knew I would love this family. So, years later, when they asked if we could do an extended family session, I didn’t hesitate. These are my kind of extended family sessions. Everyone gathered together, near sunset, at Keeneland, open and ready to really loving each other and laughing together. I’ve found that since the pandemic started I am finding so much more value in these sessions. We have all missed each other so very much and I think we realize that our time together is limited.
If you’ve followed my work for a while, you may recognize a little portion of this family. I have loved them since the beginning when their oldest was an itty bitty model for me and P and I were pregnant with our boys at the same time. I’ve photographed them almost every year since. Two of my most favorite things about being a photographer are watching “my” babies grow and becoming friends with people I may not have met otherwise. Usually, the mommas and I have such a draw to each other. They’ve picked me to be their photographer because they’ve felt a connection to my work or myself…which usually means we are going to connect in real life. It means the absolute world to me and I’ve met some of my closest friends this way. With this family, I always know we are going to have so much fun together and create such beautiful art because they are always able to open up, love on each other, and laugh. Lots of laughter. This session was no different in that regard. So…much…love. So…much…laughter.
